Surface aligned curves

Surface aligned curves

(OP)
I'm trying to create a surface using the command Surface aligned curves, but I always get an error message "Failed to loft surface through curves, check direction of input curves". Even though I'm changing the direction of the curves with the command Reverse curves, trying with every possible direction combination and using the parasolid engine I don't get my surface. Could you please give me an example?

RE: Surface aligned curves

Dear Aleximos,
The command runs OK using the PARASOLID advanced geometry engine. The "Geometry > Surface > Aligned Curves" command allows you to fit a lofted surface between a series of curves. It differs from the standard aligned surface in that you can use any numbers of curves to define the surface, and the curves will be on the surface that is constructed. This is a very powerful method to create surfaces with varying curvature simply by defining curves at critical locations.

I have created three curved splines using comand "Geometry > Curve - Spline > Project Control Points" simply selecting a plane and creating the control points picking in the screen. I define a new global plane (using F2 key) an repeat the process, three times. At the end I have the following three curves (make sure to activate the curve direction in "F6> Curve / Surface Directions > Shoe Curve Arrows". Also plot curve label IDs with "F6 > Curve > ID", this way you can identify and make sure YOU HAVE ONLY ONE CURVE, NOT MANY CURVES IN A LINE. Plot points as well):

Next I run command "Geometry > Surface > Aligned Curves", select the three spline curves, and the resulting surface will appear in the screen:

The surface geometry can be used to mesh with Shell CQUAD4 elements with excellent mesh quality:

Best regards,
Blas.
