Torque limiter
Torque limiter
(OP)
Hello all,
What I need:
I need a shearing pin that will break/shear at 1650 in-lbs. Can anyone give me a lead? I find many shear pins online, but they don't tell me the force required to shear them.
Why I need these:
I have two shafts, one will experience friction (torque) and the other one is connected to the original shaft by a coupler+shear pin. When the Torque goes over 1650in lbs (or 186Nm) I want the pin to break, which results in a disconnection between the two shafts.
Thanks for your time guys!

RE: Torque limiter
Keep searching for "shear pins". The reason they use shear pins is that you cannot rely on other items such as screws, to have the maximum stress that you require. A bolt for example, may be soft steel, or it may be very high strength steel. If someone takes your device apart, who knows what will be put back?

RE: Torque limiter
They might tell you what the material properties are so you can figure it out, or you can buy the coupling you want. For example http://www.emersonindustrial.com/en-US/powertransm...
Bore Range - 0.38" - 5"
Torque Range - 0.88 - 21,572 Lb-ft.
Precision-Tripping Torque - ±20%
Max RPM - 500
