ASCE 7-05 Table 15.4-2: Elevated tanks, vessels, bins or hoppers structural system classification

(OP)
Good afternoon:

Would you kindly advise if adding mechanical equipment atop structures classified as “Elevated tanks, vessels, bins or hoppers” per Table 15.4-2 of ASCE 7-05 disqualifies them from this classification? Our company builds large crushing plants for mining projects and would like to utilize this classification for determining the appropriate R-value to use; however, our client has expressed that this system is disqualified due to the addition of our large mechanical crushing equipment. They believe that this system is reserved strictly for hopper structures only, without any other additions.

I'd greatly appreciate your help!

Best regards,

jochav5280
