It only appears when I move the view around. The camera seems to be tracking this icon along with the object in view.

I'm going to guess its the rotation centre... wild guess

That marks the 'Center of Rotation'. You will note that it ONLY appears when you're actually manipulating the display, either with your mouse or a Spaceball.

Thanks for the quick reply JohnRBaker.

I have a second question: How do I get rid of it/move it?

It's a bit annoying when I have it in a position I don't want.

In 8.5, you can go to View -> Preferences -> Visualization -> view/screen and turn off the "display center of rotation" option. NX 9 is slightly different, I think you have to go to File -> all preferences; from there you should be able to find the visualization preferences.

cowski is correct that this indicator can be disabled (turned off), however, by definition, it can't be moved since at any one time, there's only a single 'Center of Rotation' and having it anywhere else than AT the 'Center of Rotation' would be silly.

And if you are using the mouse to rotate the view, you can hold down the middle mouse button for a moment before moving the mouse to designate the desired point of rotation.
