UL requirments for Variable Speed Drive 4500 520kVA NEMA type 4 enclosure

UL requirments for Variable Speed Drive 4500 520kVA NEMA type 4 enclosure

(OP)
Our customer wanted us to make a heat exchanger to cool down a Variable Speed Drive 4500 520kVA NEMA type 4 enclosure. This heat exchanger will be enclosed to the enclosure. My question is as this heat exchanger is out of enclosure system, does it need to be NEMA type 4 certified? is there any UL requirement for this kind of product?
or as long as the inlet and outlet of heat exchanger to enclosure properly sealed that is sufficient.

Thank you

RE: UL requirments for Variable Speed Drive 4500 520kVA NEMA type 4 enclosure

Technically, once you add anything into the enclosure you have invalidated the UL listing on the drive.

For penetrations of a NEMA 4 enclosure, you must use fittings listed for NEMA 4 use.

Good luck on that one. It's a tough challenge in my opinion, we've never field-modified a drive in an enclosure.

Best to you,

Goober Dave
