strange dimensions in drafting (NX8)

strange dimensions in drafting (NX8)

strange dimensions in drafting (NX8)

(OP)
Hello all,

please, check attached prt file. After inserting symbol "datum target" (Insert-Sybol-custom..., Symbol library-NX symbols-datum target 1) I get wrong dimensions in drafting. Whats the point there? Or I am doing smth wrong?

Thanks.

NX8.0.3.4 64bit, win7

RE: strange dimensions in drafting (NX8)

If you're talking about the arcs with the labels and ?? - they might be in the symbol .prt file. I'd open the symbol .prt file and check it. If that's not it, then I'm at a loss unless you've got something hidden and for some reason it's showing when placing the symbol.

RE: strange dimensions in drafting (NX8)

I think he means that the values of the dimensions to the symbol are doubled in the 2:1 view, and halved in the 1:2 view.

RE: strange dimensions in drafting (NX8)

Yes that's pretty weird,
i tried it in NX8.5.3.3 ( which is the "8" i have installed.)
If i pick "arc center" of the symbol as one of the two dimension snaps, i also get 1/2 the distance. ( 17.5 and 16.25)

RE: strange dimensions in drafting (NX8)

I'm guessing the fact that the symbol isn't view dependent is causing the issue. Granted, the behavior is strange, but we are talking about geometry with two different view dependencies. How can the dimension recognize that it should scale itself when the geometry of the symbol is 1:1 and not within a view?

Expand the view and place the same symbol in the same location and the dimension is now scaled as it should be.

Try drawing a line outside of a view and taking a distance measurement to the model geometry that is inside the view - the results are not accurate there either.
