Cold Formed angles effective section modulus

Cold Formed angles effective section modulus

Cold Formed angles effective section modulus

(OP)
Hi,

I am designing a 6" x 1.5" cold-formed angle in bending with 6" leg in compression and 1.5" leg in tension. The leg in compression is not fully effective. Only 2.2" is roughly effective. I am using AISI equation Mn= Se Fy to get the Moment capacity. While calculating the effective section modulus Se=Ixe/yc I am using Ixe as effective Second moment of area. Should yc be based on gross gross section or the effective cross section.

Thank you.

Regards.

RE: Cold Formed angles effective section modulus

Since Ixe is the effective moment of inertia, then Yc should be based on the effective X-section.

Thanks you. It make sense.
