ASME section VIII div. 1

ASME section VIII div. 1

Hi friends,
My question is regarding ASME VIII Div. 1.
On a vessel you have a stub for a field weld to a vapor duct. MY question is where does ASME code stop? Is it the end of the neck or is the field weld included? In the introduction of section 8 it states the first circumferential weld. Well does ASME cover the weld or not?

Thanks for your thoughts

RE: ASME section VIII div. 1

....the welding end connection for the first circumferential
joint for welded connections [see
UW-13(h)];

The weld prep is under Section VIII, Div 1. The weld itself would be under a piping code or standard.

Thanks metengr for the reply
but 1 more quick question say you have a weld fit-up band for this weld instead of a butt-weld how would that be addressed because you are technically welding roughly 2 inches before the end of the nozzle neck?

RE: ASME section VIII div. 1

the same theory apply to any any weld type.

Thanks Friends
