Concrete/Asphalt Transition
Concrete/Asphalt Transition
(OP)
Usually I strictly handle water resource projects, but working on a paved industrial project where we will have concrete pads in the middle of asphalt pavement. Is there anything that needs to be taken into account at the junction of these two surfaces, or does the asphalt simply get placed to the edge of the poured concrete? We also have concrete curbs with asphalt extending to the curbing? How do you prevent water from migrating subsurface at these interfaces? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

RE: Concrete/Asphalt Transition
Regarding the asphalt against the curb: Typically in NYC we just pave directly against the curb. Of course others may beg to differ. I attached a NYCDOT standard sheet showing the curb detail. If you wanted to seal the pavement, you could do something similar to what is shown for sealing the sidewalk joint at the curb..
