Appying a finish to aluminium

Appying a finish to aluminium

Appying a finish to aluminium

(OP)
Hi

I am making some bespoke aluminium cabinets that are going to be made from 10mm aluminium 6082 tooling plate & sent to a polishers to apply a brushed finish.
I have attached a picture to show you the sort of thing we are making.

The Brushing process would leave the aluminium exposed & because these cabinets are going in a shop and will be handled the client is worrying about what will happen to them over time .
So they have asked what we can do about this , the brushing leaves a Matt finish which they want to retain so I guess this negates us using a clear lacquer.
I was hoping we could just apply a wax or spray that can be applied at the assemble stage in the shop but this might be wishful thinking .

So my questions are :-
Would the aluminium oxidize & mark easily over time in a dry retail shop ?
If so what could we do to stop this ?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Appying a finish to aluminium

It is possible that the aluminium surfaces will get marked and corroded over time. It will depend upon what comes in contact with the surfaces. One option to consider is clear anodizing, which should retain some of the original brushed roughness and appearance.
