"no bake" patterns?

"no bake" patterns?

"no bake" patterns?

(OP)
Some of our drawings have been carrying a note similar to this for a while.
" Use 'no bake' core and pattern " .
I kind of know what no bake sand is, but as far as I know we have real patterns made of wood for existing products and have patterns made of foam etc for new short run parts.

- Does "no bake" apply to making patterns ?

thanks

Dan T

RE: "no bake" patterns?

It is a misnomer. There can be only, wood, metal or polyurethane as materials of construction.Perhaps they are probably discussing patterns and core box made from Araldite ( Ciba Geigy).

NoBake is a process, where a self setting resin is used to harden the mould chemically.

I'm just one step away from being rich, all I need now is money.
( read somewhere on the internet)

RE: "no bake" patterns?

It is common to "bake" sand molds to drive out any trapped moisture. If there is moisture trapped in the mold/core sand, it will out-gas when the molten metal is poured into the mold, creating gas porosity in the casting.

RE: "no bake" patterns?

You know that they are just misusing the term, they mean use a cold set core and mold.
Or more accurately, that you need a pattern suitable for making no-bake molds.
And there are a bunch of no bake processes.
