How create centerpoints for ellipses in NX 9?

How create centerpoints for ellipses in NX 9?

How create centerpoints for ellipses in NX 9?

Have an ellipse to dimension in NX 9, but having a devil of a time getting the program to correctly lay centerpoints for the major and minor curves. Any suggestions?

RE: How create centerpoints for ellipses in NX 9?

Is this what you're attempting to do:

If so, I had no problem using the 'Rapid Dimension' function.

I'm not aware of any method for extracting those reference points of an ellipse using NX. Perhaps am NX Open application could be written to extract the location for and subsequently create the reference points.

Aw nuts... goign to have calculate it manually then. sadeyes

RE: How create centerpoints for ellipses in NX 9?

If the shape you are dimensioning is truly elliptical, then adding the radius centerpoints/dimensions is a waste of time. The radius of an ellipse is constantly changing as you move around the ellipse, your measurements of the actual part won't yield the values called out on the print. If you read further into the thread, he seems to come to the same conclusion and then suggests using a profile of surface tolerance instead.

I have defined elliptical holes by defining the intersection of a cylinder with a planar surface.

Hm... you have a point there cowski. Profile of a Surface Tolerance would be a bit more sane. What I have now is something like what I have attached as a JPG to this post:

Just want to make sure the guy or gal making this thing is not going to be confused at what I am trying to present in my drawing.

As for what was cited by Roy Cross on the ETI Weblink, I believe it was Figure 6-19 on Page 171 of the ASME Y14.5-1994 Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standard.
