Changing drawing association
Changing drawing association
(OP)
I am well aware that this is a very long shot, but I figured it was worth asking before I have my designer redo his drawing.
So, I have a designer who has a part he designed. He has a drawing made for that part. He just realized he should have had that part as a sub component of another assembly before creating the drawing. Is there any possible way to carry over all of the drawing work he has already done from his current part drawing to his new assembly drawing?
Thanks in advance for any help!
John

it's "semi simple" in both cases,
Without TC , - the drawing is an "assembly " which normally only has a single component - the model.
Use "replace component" and switch the old against the new .
You might have to re-connect some dimensions and such but apart from that you are done.
The "assembly" - thing still applies when running under Teamcenter, but there are Teamcenter rules on top of this making things a bit more complex.
The way i have done it is to select the drawing in Teamcenter - RMB - named references - pick the drawing part - export ( to temporary local disk)
then create a new drawing for the new top node. Save and close.
in TC select the new drawing - RMB - named references - pick the drawing part - delete
then without leaving the named references - import- ( first rename the exported file to the new number) select the dile on local disk.
Open the new drawing from Teamcenter into NX - This drawing will then still contain the old component , replace the component with the new top node. -save
and if dimensions have lost their parents, re-connect these.

Tomas
