Finding Dimensions by their unique identifer in NX7.5?

Finding Dimensions by their unique identifer in NX7.5?

Finding Dimensions by their unique identifer in NX7.5?

(OP)
Hi,
I am looking for help please. Within NX7.5 within the 'drafting' application, each dimension added is, by default, given a uniquie identifier. This can found by using the secondary mouse button on the dimension and selecting 'properties', then on the 'general' tab selecting the 'i'. At the bottom of the page of info is a 'Object Dependancy Graph' number, eg 'Vertical Dimension - ID 3771658'. This number persists if the dim is ammended or moved within the drawing sheet.
Can I use this number to search for this dimension on a page within a drawing, if so HOW???
My requirement is to be able to find a dimension or feature on a drawing sheet quickly with out having to rely on it being in the same physical place all the time. Maybe there is another unique attribute that can be used for each feature/dim on a drawing, that cound be recorded and searched on?
I hope you can help.yinyang

RE: Finding Dimensions by their unique identifer in NX7.5?

If using the interactive NX commands, you can assign a unique name or attribute to the dimension(s) of interest. When you need to select them, you can use 'select by name' or the attribute filter. I don't think there is a way to filter on the dimension ID with interactive commands.

If you are using API commands, you can do the same as above; in addition, you may be able to loop through the dimensions inspecting the ID of each, but here again a unique name or attribute would be easier.

Cowski,
Many thanks for the reply, Assigning attributes sound like it has potential for going forward. I would still like to be able to interrogate historical drawings and record a 'known fixed attribute' that relates to a dim/feature and then be able to search on that and find it despite the dim/feature moving on the drawing due to planned alterations in the future.
Once again, many thanks for the reply.thumbsup2
