(OP)
Hello,

I'm having trouble getting the following model to run. The attached picture is the assembly of my model comprised of 266 parts (individual 2D deformable blocks). Their interaction is defined by a general interaction property with hard normal contact applied and a high level of friction (either 'Rough' tangential interaction or high friction penalty defined) as we are assuming that sliding failure does not occur. The main idea is that no tension can exist between blocks.

I can't get it to run through to completion, it always returns either a "Time increment required is less than the minimum specified" or a "Too many attempts made for this increment" error. I've tried decreasing the Minimum increment size for the loading step, and it ran for a longer time but still not to completion.

E = 1E6
Load is gravity applied to the whole model (-1 in y direction)
Ground is modeled as a 2d Analytical Rigid Surface with an Encastre boundary condition and separate interactions defined.

I'm not too fluent in Abaqus so any help is much appreciated!!

Chris
