render sets and ''Drafting Spline (Extracted Edge)'
render sets and ''Drafting Spline (Extracted Edge)'
(OP)
Not sure where to pose this question ... so thought I'd start here.
fyi, i;m running nx 9
I am trying to create some drawings ... and i want to de-emphasize one particular part.
The de-emphasized part is critical to the assembly, but not part of the package created at the particular factory where the drawings are going to.
I've been trying to use render sets in the drawing application to make the de-emphasized part dotted.
But as you can see by the attached screen-grab, only the edges are the desired 'dotted lines'.
The surface edges/lines are still solid.
At first I thought it was that the geometry of the part (highlighted in orange) was imported from solidworks???
But now I am not so sure.

I did a bit more exploring ... and here is what i've found ...
In ALL cases ... the 'Drafting Spline (Extracted Edge)' will not go to dotted in the render set.
Below are a few images.
The first image is of a part 100% NX native ... and should be 100% dotted.
The second image has the 'dumb file' on the left, and 'smart files' on the right.
Note that the bushing/spacer is also part of the render set ... but has no 'drafting splines' ... so looks as intended ...

any help on turning all the lines (including the Drafting Splines) dotted would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks

RE: render sets and ''Drafting Spline (Extracted Edge)'
If this is a single part / solid, maybe you could do a simpler trick than using the renders sets,
When you have the drawing part the displayed part, either switch to Modeling application or turn off the display of the drawing, ( Since it's NX9 it's impossible to describe where to find the button to click) then select the solid-s to be dotted, and press "Ctrl+J", Set the line font to dotted or dashed.
This solid body will now appear dotted / dashed in all views in this file.
Works ?

Tomas

To turn off the display of the drawing, use the command finder and search for "display sheet". The command is hidden by default in NX 9 (even if you are using the advanced role).

Tomas ... yes, ... that was the first thing i tried ... to just change the properties of the part ... and got the same result .. and thought that render sets would help.
attached is a montage of the 3 images i tried to attached before.
thanks everyone ... any help is welcome.

RE: render sets and ''Drafting Spline (Extracted Edge)'
I tried a simple model and it turns out that the outofthebox settings in NX9 is to override smooth edges into "solid line font" instead of the "expected" "original".
Try my method above, then double click the view, select "smooth edges" and set these to "original".
See attached image.
I think the setting applies to render sets as well.
