Looking for aluminized polyethylene supplier

Looking for aluminized polyethylene supplier

Looking for aluminized polyethylene supplier

(OP)
I am looking for a supplier of aluminized polyethylene. In particular, 3 mil polyethylene with a very thin aluminum layer on one side such that the material is not opaque but somewhat transparent.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

RE: Looking for aluminized polyethylene supplier

Metallisation is a somewhat specialised process. Normally applied to pre-stretched (bi-axially oriented) films of PP or PET, the aluminium is vapour deposited on to the moving web in a high vacuum vessel. I dont see why a metalliser wouldn't apply such a coating to a pre-treated (corona or flame treated surface) PE, but it might be expensive. Why not use metallised OPP or PET -available in various grades from for instance Mobil or DuPont. These films are generally somewhat transparent - just hold a metallised film in front of a bright light - and the optical density is dependent on the degree of metal coating. The coating is generally only about 10 angstroms deep.In the UK, Rexam can vacuum metallise and might do a special film if thats what you require, but a cheaper option would be to buy some 12 micron (0.5 thou) metallised OPP or PET and have it laminated to your PE. Ask one of the big laminators in your area.
