Substructures and dynamic analysis

Substructures and dynamic analysis

(OP)
Hello all,

I'm attempting to model a building using Abaqus shell elements to represent the diaphragms and shear walls and running a dynamic, Implicit analysis. I've created the first floor and would like to create a substructure of the first floor to add additional floors up to 7 stories. I've created a smaller scale model to practice on without messing up my full scale model, but the results are not what I'd expect to see. I've picked the retained DOF, but am not sure I'm connecting the substructure to the model correctly. According to the Abaqus manual it states to apply constraints to the retained DOF and that is what I did to "connect" it. I've attached the INP file for the smaller test model with the substructure added called "2storyfastenertest." I have quite a few connectors between the shells to connect the diaphragm to the shear walls and shear wall to shear wall. I'm not sure if the connectors (fasteners) have anything to do with how the substructure works. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
