Fire rated walls

Fire rated walls

Fire rated walls

(OP)
I am working on bathrooms renovation at an existing assisted living building in Texas. We want to route the exhaust duct through the outside walls. The question is whether NBC and NFPA codes allow that. Are perimeter walls in such buildings fire rated? If they are, then can we penetrate them with bathroom exhaust ducts?

RE: Fire rated walls

would you really rely on tips answer for such kind of question instead of checking code yourself if you are the one who signs?pipe

RE: Fire rated walls

You should describe the building structure, occupancy and protective measures into additional details. What type of a building is it? another word, wood frame or masonry block walls, steel walls, number of stories, number of residents, fire protection and detection, etc...e

RE: Fire rated walls

"We want to route the exhaust duct through the outside walls"
where usually does exhaust duct go if not through outside walls or roof

RE: Fire rated walls

exhaust ducts will end thru walls, roofs and under eaves.

RE: Fire rated walls

I agree with Drazen and tried to star his post.

RE: Fire rated walls

The exterior wall fire rating for that occupancy depends on proximately of the nearest building or fire hazard. I believe if the nearest building is more than 10 meters than a fire rated wall is not required. I agree with Drazen that it is best to check the code.
