Fatigue Assessment to AISC 360-10 Principle or Von Mises stress

(OP)
When calculating the stress range of a welded joint for fatigue, in line with Appendix 3 of AISC 360-10, is the stress the principle stress or von mises stress?

RE: Fatigue Assessment to AISC 360-10 Principle or Von Mises stress

i'd vote for principAL stress. von Mises is a method to combine multi-axial stresses together to create a uni-axial equivalent stress (to compare to uni-axial strength data). if you have bi-axial tension stresses, von Mises is lower than max principal.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?
