Allowable Stress

Allowable Stress

(OP)
Hello everybody for instance, now i am designing a demo vessel for the first time. while designing the lug(SA 516 Gr. 70) should i take allowable stress which is 138 MPa for material and applied it as allowable bending, shear, compression, tension?

RE: Allowable Stress

For lugs and other attachments, I recommend the procedure(s) in the AISC Steel Construction Manual (14th edition is current). It is also possible to download AISC 360 from the AISC website. This is the code portion of the manual and will have prescriptive procedures for the design of items with individual and combined loading.

This, of course, does not apply to items which are welded to the pressure boundary, as those are covered by ASME Section VIII or other applicable pressure vessel codes.
