Long grip aluminum blind rivet

Long grip aluminum blind rivet

Long grip aluminum blind rivet

(OP)
Can anyone suggest a good aluminum blind rivet, in 3/8 or 1/2 inch diameter that will work over a 2 inch grip length? I am hoping for a nice wide bubble at the back end to limit the local stresses on the surrounding aluminum hole.

Huck makes a 1/2 inch aluminum Magna-Lok, but grip is not long enough and Magna-Lok back ends apply very localized loads to hole edges.

The fastener is required for secondary loads in tension, i.e. they are only being used to stabilize a flat plate that is carrying compression against outward buckling.

Thanks.

RE: Long grip aluminum blind rivet

If you are truly looking for a blind fastener system, rather than a two-piece lockbolt, then you may want to look at Avdelmate® BALMS:

Huck doesn't offer a similar type of fastener. The Huck BOM® and C50L® fasteners have the capability for 2" grip, but BOM® is designed more for steel, and C50L is a lockbolt.

RE: Long grip aluminum blind rivet

Blind rivets are not well suited for tension loads.

Can you counter bore the back side of the holes in the plate so that you can use a rivet with a short grip length?
