Defining and using Superelement

Defining and using Superelement

Defining and using Superelement

(OP)
I am working in an automotive company and I am new to NX. I find that the superelement method would be very useful simplified large assembly. However I find it very hard to understand the NX help documetation and I still do not understand the procedure of defining superelement and how to connect it to the residual structure.

The problem I am facing is analyzing suspension structure of a car. The wheel module is supported with two parallel arms. The arms are connected to the wheel through two free rotating joints. The purpose of the simulation is to optimized the structure of those arms, so I decide to define the wheel module as superelement and the two arms as residual structure. As far I know, the Fixed Boundary DOF has to apply to where the superelement connects with the residual structure, in this case is the free joints rotating. However I do not know which one of the 6DOF should be fixed and what does it mean to fixed those DOF?

Assuming I have successfully run the superelement analysis, I will then replacement the component in my suspension assembly with op2 file. From the help documentation, it says I will have to connect the superelement with the residual structure by Merging duplicated node. However by doing this, the joint will be connected rigidly. In this case, can I use RBE2 to connect the structure?

Also I cannot find any tutorial or document that say about using superelement in NX CAE. Could anyone provide any information about this?

Thank you very much
Jason
