OCCUPYING A ROOM WITH fm200 SYSTEM

OCCUPYING A ROOM WITH fm200 SYSTEM

OCCUPYING A ROOM WITH fm200 SYSTEM

(OP)
I have a customer that wants to move the computers out of a room and people in keeping the fm200 system in place. i seem to recall that these rooms are for equipment only. anyone have any idea if the code restricts occupancy of rooms protected by fm200 systems?

Thanks in advance

RE: OCCUPYING A ROOM WITH fm200 SYSTEM

Does the rest of the building have a fire sprinkler system??

Does this room presently have a fire sprinkler system?

The idea is if the system dumps, people leave the room.

Yes they are used in occupied areas, but not normally an office setting.

RE: OCCUPYING A ROOM WITH fm200 SYSTEM

You need to review NFPA 2001. The fact that an alternative clean agent is being used does not prevent people from using a space and NFPA 2001 makes no such prohibition. In most cases a pre-discharge alarm and warning signs are required for typical clean agent systems.

What they are proposing is perfectly compliant with NFPA 2001 and most likely your fire code.

cdafd. yes there is sprinkler in the entire building. yes the room does have a preaction system off the same panel that runs the fm200. i have also heard back from a fire plans checker who was of the same opinion as stookeyfpe. there is nothing disallowing occupation but all signs, pulls, aborts must remain. thank you for your input gentlemen.

RE: OCCUPYING A ROOM WITH fm200 SYSTEM

Since it does have sprinklers why not remove the fm 200??

There is yearly upkeep of the system involved

the usual $$$$$ . they are going to be moving out in the next little while anyway.

RE: OCCUPYING A ROOM WITH fm200 SYSTEM

Should have added room integrity. Once they start moving office in, more than likely they will punch holes in the room, degrading the integrity of the room enclosure

Anyway their call

Have them disconnect the bottles, that will not cost a lot. Heck they may even get $$$ for the gas in the bottles. You have the preaction sprinkler system so you have the required protection.

RE: OCCUPYING A ROOM WITH fm200 SYSTEM

Are you saying gas only, and no sprinklers? Be wary of this. Gas does not work well with deep seated fires involving ord combustibles like paper and cardboard. If you have a single shot system, the fire may flare back after the gas discharge if a lot of combs are present. The room should be super clean, otherwise sprinklers are a good idea as the secondary protection to protect the building from a performance based stand point.
