Dear All,
How to consider the HIC severity level??

Thanks to all

RE: HIC severity level

Ultrasonics Phased array inspections for the detection of hydrogen blisters have taken the benefits from performing the compression and shear wave approach.

RE: HIC severity level

Hydrogen permeation monitoring gives an indication of corrosion activity in real time. These instruments are made by www.ionscience.com

A full HIC/blistering control program includes baseline PAUT of the steel, so that damage progression can be assessed.

RE: HIC severity level

API 579 section 7

RE: HIC severity level

A) Is it sour Service
B) Is it Wet
C)Is it tested for HIC
D) Impurities

If its not rated to TMO-284/NACE rated, has impurities is wet and is in a sour service you have a problem.

(Based on carbon steel)

Thanks to all.
Hi Nick, service is sour and wet. No HIc test. I dont have idea about impurities.
Can you explain me about TMO rate?

RE: HIC severity level

Hi,

You can find a copy of TMO-284 here

www.enes26.ru/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=57...

Essentially inclusions/impurities within your material act as a nucleation sites for Hydrogen atoms, this leads to HIC.
It is particularly important for flat rolled pipework which is more susceptible than seamless.

I would suggest looking at ISO 15156/ MR0175 to find out what your threats are and whether you need to carry out inspection ie Phased array

Best regards,

Nick

RE: HIC severity level

Check your links before posting. The standard shown is way out of date.

With regard to the original question, it may be that the OP is seeking the HIC equivalent of the SSC Region diagram in part 2 which does not yet exist.
