Hello everyone,

I have a new job on my desk to analyze an existing fall restraint system to see if it has the capacity to support more load, they want to be able to use it as an equipment hoist at the same time.

The existing drawings call off a Spanco 600 track for the trolley to install in. My googling doesn't turn up any info on that directly but does turn up a bunch of stuff about Spanco's new trolley track Alu-track stating how it is dimensionally similar to the spanco600.

Does anyone have any literature laying around on the Spanco 600 enclosed steel track they could fire my way?

Thanks a bunch,

You better check OHSA. I don’t think they allow fall protection structure or fittings to be used for multiple duties when they are being used for fall protection. Also, one of their criteria is that a tie-off point or structure be good for 5k, and that can be an ultimate strength, or 5002lbs. can cause failure. So some of them may not be over designed by much. Then lanyards and the like actually limit the fall force to something less than 5k.

Yes I'm aware of the loading requirements. I'm looking now for clauses such as the one you mention about performing double duties. I'm in Canada so it's the Workplace Safety and Health which is similar to your OHSA.

RE: Spanco 600 steel track

Even in OSHA, I'm not aware of a prohibition against multiple uses, except that it has to be designed for the multiple loads as well.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer for information?

I sent them a request but thought I'd throw it up here as well.
