Hotel daily Water Demand

Hotel daily Water Demand

Hotel daily Water Demand

(OP)
Hi,

Can anyone point me to a method that can be used to estimate the water demand of a hotel? To be more specific I want to be able to estimate the daily water need of the hotel in order to size the water tanks. Is it based on the number of rooms? ..etc. Any references on the topic would be very helpful as well as I would want to keep a copy for future reference and for any discussions that may arise later on.

Thank you very much.

It depends on what type of hotel you are designing and all the amenities that may or may not come with it.

Common practice is 150 gpd per room for a regular hotel, 75 gpd for a resort type with separate building units.

If there is a self service laundry, it would be 400 gpd per machine.

For a central laundry, the use is 2-3 gallons of water per pound of material (linens ~3 lb/set, towels ~1.5 lb/set)

You might have a restaurant which could be 50-75 gpd per seat.

And that's only the start of it - As someone else said the variance in flow from peak to low flow is huge - 10:1 or more so working out your tank size involves lots of issues such inlet flow, max holding time in case of low pressure / poor inlet flow conditions, weight of tank and water, number and type of guests, all large variables.

But there is lots of info out there, you just need to look a little deeper...

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way
