Adobe Illustrator to Solidworks sketch
Adobe Illustrator to Solidworks sketch
(OP)
Before Solidworks all my work was done in Adobe Illustator 5,6,7,8,9.Its now time to convert some of this work to a sketch in SW.I know about illustators export capabilities to dxf, and dwg.Whenever I try to bring these to SW,I never get what I'm aiming for. Most of the time I get squat! Any tricks out there??or WHAT am I doing wrong.
PS I don't have any problems with any 3d dxf,dwg problems,only Illustator
Thanks Guys!!

RE: Adobe Illustrator to Solidworks sketch
Here are a few tips:
1) Download the free VoloView viewer from AutoDesk:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/index/0,,837403-123112,00.html
If the DWG/DXF from Adobe does not import properly into VoloView, then the problem is with Adobe and you should contact them.
2) Can you control the export settings and DXF/DWG version in Adobe? Have you tried different settings/versions?
3) Have you tried opening the DXF/DWG in a SolidWorks Drawing? Have tried opening it in a part?
4) Is it a 3D DXF? If so you must enable the SolidWorks DXF3D add in.
cheers,
Joseph

Upgrade to SWX 2003 and you'll be glad.

RE: Adobe Illustrator to Solidworks sketch
I have tried exporting Adobe Illustrator to SolidWorks too.
All of Illustrator's objects are splines, including the things that look to me like straight lines. SolidWorks does not like straight splines.
In my case, I did the export via AutoCAD. AutoCAD was perfectly happy with Illustrator's output. I fixed the offending objects in AutoCAD, then I exported these to SolidWorks.
