Identification Symbols default to $~C

Identification Symbols default to $~C

Identification Symbols default to $~C

(OP)
My identification symbol notations change from entered numbers to "$~C". This happens only randomly (usually close to deadline), and only after I have saved, closed, and then openned at a later date. Anyone else have this problem or are the gemlins just having a good laugh?

RE: Identification Symbols default to $~C

You need to make sure that the ID symbol arrow is not touching any part of a component,
because it is will take the item number of the parts list and place it in the ID symbol
See image to turn off point selection on your tool bar so the arrow will not be associated to anything.

Thank you for your prompt answer. I will be sure to check where the ID symbol is attached when/if this happens again. I normally do have the snap pont enabled. If what you say is correct about not touching a component, I have 2 years worth of drawings that should have exploded to $~C since I (almost) always attach the ID symbol to the component. Now atleast I know... Thanks again

RE: Identification Symbols default to $~C

You can right click the row in the parts list and lock that line. That should prevent it from reverting.

RE: Identification Symbols default to $~C

Is the $~C actually what is displayed in the ID symbol on the drawing, or does it display the system callout number and only display $~C in the annotation editor?

What type of text are you manually entering into the ID symbols?

RE: Identification Symbols default to $~C

I don't advise intentionally moving an ID callout balloon off of a component. If you don't like the system generated callout number, you can supply your own by using an attribute.

If you are adding other information to the drawing, you would be better served by using an ID balloon type that is not associated to the parts list (by default the circle symbol is used by the parts list).
