Graphite Gasket over SPWD or RTJ gasket

(OP)
Dear All

Is it appropriate using Graphite Gasket to withstand High Pressure and High Temperature equipment, Are the Spiral wound gasket or RTJ gasket would more appropriate to withstand this conditions?

Thanks for comments and response
Regards
Zachari Alamsyah

RE: Graphite Gasket over SPWD or RTJ gasket

I prefer spiral wound gaskets. Laminated graphite gaskets tend to be more fragile and many times are broken during shipping, storing, installing. I only use graphite when I need a non-standard shape. Check with your local gasket supplier,

Zachari Alamsyah , it all depends on what you mean with

furthermore it depends on service conditions.

define appropriate; to what do you relate? cost, leak tightness, maintenance, availability, joining personnel competent skills, .. ?
for RTJ's, one often needs more torque to tightne, which may call hydraulic tightening rather than hand-wrench torquing.
RTJ rings tend to damage the groove over time if the BFJ's are opened & closed; SPWND tend not to have this effect (as much) on rasied faces.
RTJ's, do to higher torque, may require higher strength bolts, which may be more expensive, or hard to come by ..
I can go on...

As you might notice, it all depends on your definition, preference, and a whole lot of factors that influence each other.
