HEC-22 EGL Junction Losses Question

HEC-22 EGL Junction Losses Question

HEC-22 EGL Junction Losses Question

(OP)
Hey everyone,

This is my first thread, and I was hoping somebody could give me some guideance on a EGL HEC-22 question.

I'm working on a bridge deck drainage closed non-pressure flow system, and I have 90 degree laterals from the inlets to the trunk main line (without a manhole/inlet at the junction). I've been using the HEC-22 manual for EGL computation, and my question is regarding junction loss equation Eq. 7-10 HEC-22.

Is the losses Hj applied to both the trunkline and the lateral (i.e. if both pipes were not in supercritical partial flow)? If these are not applied to the lateral, am I to use bend losses to determine the EGL of the lateral instead (Eq. 7-5 HEC-22)?

Thanks,

Gerard
