I don't mean to revive a dead horse here but I'm curious to know one additional item that really didn't seem to be covered in this otherwise very good thread:

When using the inverted channel detail (Fig 5.4.2 from "Designing with Vulcraft"). What do you typically detail for the case when the curb runs parallel to the joist?
It seems in this case you would need to an angle frame below the RTU with blocking. I suppose the blocking could be short pieces of the C6x8.2 but you still introduce the need for an angle frame. In which case I wonder if it is easier to just you an angle framing in general?
