Problems w/ Scanners running w/ a Laptop Computer.

Problems w/ Scanners running w/ a Laptop Computer.

(OP)
I've recently encountered a problem running a scanner through our laptop computer.  The problem is that it used to work perfectly fine when the scanner was originally installed on the laptop.  We used the scanner successfully for several months.  One day we disconnected the scanner to use it with another desktop computer and when we reconnected it to the orignal laptop, the program would no longer work.  I have heard of several other people encountering the same problem with scanners connected to laptops and am curious if anyone out there has any insight to this problem.  The laptop manufacturer told us that we needed another chip in our computer to run the scanner but I find that difficult to believe since it had worked for us in the past.

RE: Problems w/ Scanners running w/ a Laptop Computer.

Hi Fran, just a shot in the dark here, a friend of mine had a similar problem with a desktop machine and he found out thru trial and error that if the scanner was turned on before the pc it would work. No explanation why...Mike
