Centrelines & Broken Views
Centrelines & Broken Views
(OP)
Anyone had any success with centrelines and broken views in NX9 ?
I create a centreline on a cylindrical component and then break the view ... the centreline and any annotations connected to it are removed (as in hidden). I update the view, they reappear temporarily, and then disappear again.
I tried breaking the view first and then adding the centreline. It works okay, until that is the model needs to be updated. Then, the centreline disappears.

I'm still seeing the message, I'm just curious as to why a centreline is now (as in NX9) a problem with a broken view.

RE: Centrelines & Broken Views
It's simply an issue that has been judged to be something which could be addressed at some later, but as yet unspecified, date. That is why we created the warning message so that users would be aware of what was happening, or in this case, NOT happening, and that it was a known issue. If you would like to contact GTAC and have them open an IR/PR covering this issue, please do so since without any outside comments, the priority for addressing this will not change any time soon.

RE: Centrelines & Broken Views
I have called it in, I was told it would be added to an ER.
I told GTAC that it's a regression and I am currently waiting to hear from Development.
I have to say, the changes to View behaviour in NX9 is so far a complete disaster. I'm logging IR after IR.

RE: Centrelines & Broken Views
As for your claim that it worked in NX 6.0, you can't be serious. The pre-NX 8.0 broken view functionality was pretty crude and almost impossible to use without someone showing you first exactly how to do it, step by step. And the results were totally different. The pre-NX 8.0 Broken View resulted in two or more separate views that you had to align manually and if you wanted to move them you had to remember that they were just that, separate and independent views. Also, once created, you could not create a Section View of a Broken View, something that you can do today. So yes, there is an issue with the Centerline not being automatically updated correctly, but I suspect that NO ONE would ever suggest that this alone is reason enough to want to somehow go back to the pre-NX 8.0 behavior.
BTW, I hope you DO get your ER converted to a 'regression' as that, more than anything, will help raise the priority for getting this issue resolved.

RE: Centrelines & Broken Views
Speaking with GTAC, they're informing me that View Break isn't a replacement for Broken View. Notice that the wording is different ! As such, there is no regression, so there's nothing to fix.
The workaround is to use Tools Customize and add the legacy Broken View function to the ribbon.

RE: Centrelines & Broken Views
And trust me, the NX 8.0 'Vew Break' IS THE REPLACEMENT for 'Broken View' and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is only fooling themselves. And I wouldn't get to dependent on being able to resurrect the old 'Broken View' command as it's already been tagged as being a 'legacy' function, which is the next step in the process to remove it altogether.

RE: Centrelines & Broken Views
Thanks for the information.
I can add the centreline after breaking the view, that's no problem. It's when I attach dimensions to the centreline. Any changes to the model, I get the popup message when I go to drafting and my centreline and dimensions are gone. Update view displays them temporarily, but the popup appears and they're gone again.

Isn't that kind of the definition of broken? "Broken: not working properly [Merriam-Webster]"
Isn't that worse?
