Problem with adhesive elements under impact loading

Problem with adhesive elements under impact loading

(OP)
Dear All,

I am trying to model CFRP strengthened steel tube under transverse impact loading. I have modeled steel, CFRP and adhesive as C3D8R, SC8R and COH3D8 element respectively. I have also modeled the impacting body with C3D8R element. During the analysis I am getting the excessive distortion of adhesive element (something like highly brittle behaviour) and the job is aborted. when I am reducing the velocity of impactor I'm getting the better result (no excessive distortion/highly brittle behaviour).

Could anyone please suggest me how can I solve this distortion problem. I have also set the damage degradation parameters to .99 to maintain some residual stiffness. However, still facing the same problem.
