oil cup gets frequent empty out

oil cup gets frequent empty out

oil cup gets frequent empty out

(OP)
This is a centrifugal pump which this subject oil cup is attached to.
what can be possible causes of a constant level oiler getting empty out frequently.
1)ingress of air in oil cup due to crack in oil cup.
2) ingress of air through the joint where oil cup is fixed to bearing housing
3)leakage from shaft oil seals
4)chocked vent hole of bearing housing.

Is there any other reason which can cause this problem.??

thanks

RE: oil cup gets frequent empty out

It depends on the type of oiler. A pressure equalized oiler will empty if gaskets leak between housing and glass or between dip tube and housing. Windage from a cooling fan can draw oil into the housing. If the equalizing line is not piped correctly this can happen.

RE: oil cup gets frequent empty out

I've seen a few different issues with constant level oilers, but they tend to be model dependent.

If you can be more specific on which make and model of oiler you are using, it would be helpful.

RE: oil cup gets frequent empty out

I have seen oil cups with wicks that would control oil flows. Is such a wick missing?
