Bystar 4020 stainless problems

(OP)
Hi, New to the forums and also I'm mew to laser cutting. At my work we have a Bystar 4020 6000w the laser isn't to old "i can't remember the hours in up time", but I know it's 4 to 5 years old. We cut every thing from 16ga to 1" m.s. and 16ga to 5/8 304 & 316 stainless. The problem I'm having is on .375 and greater on stainless. I can get it to cut, but no matter what I try I still get slag on the bottom of the plate. I've tried dropping the feed rate, lowering the focus etc.. nothing seems to help. also when we cut .500 you have to lower the n2 gas pressure from 18 to 14 or you will get a gas jet error (cnc stop). Any input would be appreciated.

p.s. all the mild steel cuts fine besides the .750

RE: Bystar 4020 stainless problems

Did you try to cut faster? Cutting stainless too slow can result in big hard burr. Gas pressure (high) and focal point (low) are also important.

RE: Bystar 4020 stainless problems

just wondering what nozzle you are using.

RE: Bystar 4020 stainless problems

it's usually optics, or gas delivery that does this. When was the last time anyone checked the optics? How old is the lens? An easy way to check the gas system is to pressure test it by plugging up the nozzle and then hitting the jet button. You should hear no gas leak out anywhere. Put a gauge on the side of the Z axis in the test port.

Thx for the replies. Theres a gas pressure problem because it can't go above 14 to 15 bars with an internal stop error. I know the optics haven't been cleaned since I started 5 months ago. They say there going to get done when it slows down. We have an 4400w 4020 and it cuts .375 great.
