Storage tank rehabilitation

(OP)
Hi, I'm a mechanical engineer and I moved recently to storage tank departement.. I need a detailed description of the correct procedures to completely rehabilitate an API storage tank according to the API 653

RE: Storage tank rehabilitation

Suggest you take a 653 seminar. Either that or spend some time on the jobsite of both a new tank being built and a tank getting a replacement floor slotted in. What you asked is almost a 'big' a question as "What does a MechE need to know, in detail?"

RE: Storage tank rehabilitation

ditto Duwe6. API-653 IS the procedure and it is really one of the best How-To-Evaluate/Fix-It standards compared to other industries. It is very concise too and there is no fluff to skim over in that book. If anything API-653 is the Cliffs Notes to tank engineering and there are no Cliffs Notes to the Cliffs Notes. btw, i'm not flaming you here. i just want to emphasize the point since you might be making a career out of it. start with API-653, then API-650, then API-2000, then....

a good starting point is to understand everything on the out-of-service inspection checklist at the back of API-653.

RE: Storage tank rehabilitation

It's far too broad of a question. You use the 653 code to repair or alter your tanks but typically you already have areas of concern from previous inspections, the most recent out of service, or that threaded connection breaking off in service. You would need to specify what exactly you want to fix.. completely rehabilitate you might as well build new.
