ESFR

ESFR

(OP)
In 2010 edtion of NFPA 13, it appears ESFR cannot be used on a pre action system.

Anyone know if that has changed. The section in the 2013 edtion is the same wording, but the commentary does not seem the same.

RE: ESFR

ESFR and pre action are two terms that will never go together. you can't have early suppression, with the inherent delay of a preaction system.

RE: ESFR

I have not checked in awhile, but I am 99.9% sure that Viking system is not <FM>. Correct me if I am wrong, because I only briefly reviewed the doc you posted.

FM scientist developed the ESFR in the 80's at their research lab and wrote the book on the subject in regards to design and installation. This criteria eventually gets pulled into 13 on a lagging basis if enough people raise their hand at meetings.

Also, be wary of PG in systems, jury still out but I believe some testing a few years ago has shown it can be a hazard in certain concentrations.
