Agitating Lime Mud

Agitating Lime Mud

Agitating Lime Mud

(OP)
We have a 40'Ø x 24' tank in which we store lime mud (40-50% solids). On several occasions now, the motor has tripped on high amps. Solids in and out of the tank have stayed in range. No equipment damage to agitator rakes has been seen. Bearings sound good--vibration data confirms (actually the other way around). 25 hp/1800 motor (29 FLA) routinely pulls 25-27 amps. Agitator turns 3.8 rpm. So put a bigger motor on, right? Well, my concern is we'd rip the shaft in two if we tried to jog the rakes while it was bogged down. The shaft is a 14" Sch 40 pipe.

I'd appreciate any help from any mud gurus out there. Need any additional information, just ask. Hate to type out the whole history if this is the wrong forum.
