Engine Section
Engine Section
(OP)
Hi,
I have huge engine assembly (the attached picture is just a sample ).
I need to create a step file which will be used for an Unigraphics project.
I do not need all the engine assembly; let's say, just the nearby components of the blue right pipe.
It may look like a section cut vertical at 20mm from the right blue pipe.
I assume that there are a lot of surfacing and body entities.
How would you create this job?
Thanks

only by deleting the surfaces and bodies which are not required.
RE: Engine Section
First try to reduce your model by using intersection trap rectangle in graphic area, selecting what you don't need. Then deactivate (terminal node) what was selected. In CATIA should remain in grphic area what you need and very little stuff in addition, I suppose it will work. I never tried to use the split feature from assembly workbench (none of the companies for which I worked is using) but you can take a look.
Deleting and cutting CATIA stuff is time consuming.

RE: Engine Section
Once you have the .stp file you can import it back into CATIA or UG to create a section cut of the solids. If you wish to make a section cut in UG that includes surfaces, you will need to export the CATIA product as an .igs format. But the .igs format will be composed of just surfaces/lines/curves, so the resulting section cut in UG will not recognize which areas are part of a body.
If you have the correct license, you can create a section of the CATIA product and then save that section cut as a .stp or .igs format.
