Wood Frame - Fire Rating Question

Wood Frame - Fire Rating Question

Wood Frame - Fire Rating Question

(OP)
I have a question regarding the fire rating requirement regarding fire exposure for an exterior walls where the building geometry jogs. Please see attached sketch. I'm preparing a preliminary pricing set and the architect hasn't been much help. I have looked in the code and it appears to me that code requires fire exposure from both sides when the fire separation distance is less than 10'. Any comments will be much appreciated.

RE: Wood Frame - Fire Rating Question

It is possible they are both part of the same fire compartment and since they do not face the property line they do not require it. However that is just a guess.

I also know that you need to have continuity of your fire rating and if the other walls are all rated walls then there is a good chance that those walls will as well.

NFExp:

I'm not sure that they need to be 2hr rated since they are at right angles to the property line. You might post this question on the building code forum:

They usually respond pretty quickly. Additional info they'll need is the code you're using and whether these are rental units or condos.

DB

NB: Great drawing - very helpful.

RE: Wood Frame - Fire Rating Question

It would definately be helpful if you tell us which edition of building code you are using.
