Tests for Electrodes/Filler Wire Certification as per ASME Sec. II Part-C

Tests for Electrodes/Filler Wire Certification as per ASME Sec. II Part-C

Tests for Electrodes/Filler Wire Certification as per ASME Sec. II Part-C

(OP)
We are reviewing most of the Electrode/Filler Wire batch test certificates of various reputed welding consumables manufacturers and noted that only Chemical analysis is actual analyzed and mentioned in the Test certificate and whereas for Mechanical Properties only typical values are mentioned as per ASME Sec. II Part-C which are not actual results.

For Example - For GTAW wires-As per ASME Sec. II Part-C SFA 5.18 Table-5, Tension test is required for ER70S-2 filler wire, but we are recieving the batch test certificates without Mechanical properties.

Question-Is Actual Mechanical tests for Welding consumables non-mandatory?

Thanks in advance for reply.

RE: Tests for Electrodes/Filler Wire Certification as per ASME Sec. II Part-C

It will depend on the code you are working to and the type of certification you order. It's up to you to research your application to determine which cert type you need. For many cases a Schedule F cert will suffice. This can be typical results, but more often than not,(in my experience) you will get actual chemistry with typical mechanicals.

Oft times you will receive "Typical" analyses. These are certificates of conformance-not truw MTRs. If you need added info or a true CMTR, you must require it in your P.O.

Agree with weldstan, typical C of C values are provided unless other requirements are specified.
