Wind Load on Single Angle

Wind Load on Single Angle

Wind Load on Single Angle

(OP)
Hi,

I have question about wind load on single angle as per NBC 2010. NBC 2010 Commentary figure I-30 shows coefficients that should be used to resolve the applied wind in normal and tangential components of structural members (like W,Channels etc). By using those coefficients for a single angle, I get wind components in both direction. Should I consider wind in both directions simultaneously in load combinations with dead and live? or should I consider wind based on one direction at a time. My understanding is that since total wind force is resolved in two components, it should be considered in both direction.

Please advise.

Thanks.

RE: Wind Load on Single Angle

Wind will come into the angle iron from an uncontrolled direction. Once it hits the two legs of the angle iron, it will split and flow around causing eddies, spirals, vortices and extra vibration on both legs in random directions irregularly - sometimes reacting in different directions with different forces at the different locations on the angle iron at the same time.

Don't assume you can get anything better than an approximation of an inexact answer.
