I need some help with sizing anchor bolts in a rectangular pattern on a rectangular storage tank. How can I calculate the load per bolt if the pattern is rectangular? All the information I have is for a circular pattern. Any help would be appreciated.

its going to depend on the construction of the tank and how the loads are applied.

Assuming the tank is completely rigid...I would divide the shear between some portion of your bolts. If there is uplift I would distribute equally to the bolts. If there is overturning, I would take the cross section area of each bolt and then take the group of cross sections as a single section...use this to get your tension/compression via Mc/I (moment*distance from centroid to bolt/inertia of group).

I think it might help if you gave some information on the size of the storage tank and dimensions of the anchor bolt pattern.

Size of the storage tank is 114"H x 90"W x 342"L

There are currently (8) anchor holes, (4) on each side. Spacing is 94" on the short side. Spacing is 115" each on the long side.

What kind of loads is the tank expected to see that would require anchor bolts? Sloshing of contents? I would think these anchors are more just to hold the tank in it's place on the floor when empty. 8 anchors for a ~30 foot long tank doesn't lead me to believe the anchors are for much more than that.

The tank could see wind or seismic loads. I'm trying to determin if 8 anchors are enough or if I need more.

I think you should just simple divide your shear force by 8 (V/8). For tension/compression forces, I believe that 4 of those anchors will be in tension and 4 will be in compression (T/4 or C/4). Do not forget to design the anchors for both shear and tension acting on the anchor simultaneously. You can always use Hilti Profis for this, it is very easy.

Just for comparison, on a typical round tank-
Anchor bolts are omitted unless required by design;
Maximum anchor spacing is taken as 6' to 10' depending on the standard used;
Anchors are primarily designed for uplift, using anchor chairs to distribute the load as required into the vertical sides, with shear considerations included as an afterthought;
Anchor loading is determined by treating anchor bolts as an equivalent ring of metal and using Mc/I-P/A;
Depending on tank bottom construction, part of the contents of the tank is assumed to resist seismic uplift for overturning check but not for sizing of anchors.
