Cathodic Protection for New API Storage tanks

Cathodic Protection for New API Storage tanks

(OP)
Can we leave the newly constructed tanks without applying CP and if yes for how long? Due to some reasons the CP cannot be applied to the tanks for sometime.

RE: Cathodic Protection for New API Storage tanks

most tanks i've crossed don't have it ever. it has been a few years now since my last tank and longer since 653 test. is CP required for new tanks now? i don't think you'll get a useful response to your post without putting out your tank configuration, environmental conditions, and soil info.

RE: Cathodic Protection for New API Storage tanks

what darth said - most tanks do not have CP, and it is *not* required by API 650/653. Basically, the way owners find out that they need it is by their operating history - floors failing due to underside corrosion. If the tank is built on proper fill with proper drainage, you don't need it.
