UPVC/PVC PIPING

UPVC/PVC PIPING

Please, does anyone know how a 3" UPVC/PVC run pipe can be connected to a 10" UPVC/PVC header pipe? Is there a 10" X 3" reducing tee or a 10" X 3" concentric reducer made of UPVC/PVC?

RE: UPVC/PVC PIPING

While it seems rather simple I think you ask a good question, and it is interesting no one else has responded to your inquiry. Plastic pipe fittings and/or lateral connections are indeed an intriguing subject. I noticed there is now a site at http://www.expert4pvc.com/Documents/PVC_Piping_Sys... that houses a document it appears "Published by the Plastic Pipe and Fitting Association". See on page 7 (after a discussion of at least some behaviors and failure/stress concentration mechanisms) this expert/authority concludes,

"Differences in the design, configuration, dimensions or special working conditions of a fitting will lead to deviations in the stresses applied. It is the responsibility of the user to conduct tests to assure suitability of the fitting for each purpose."

[As I believe there is a good bit of background over many years involved in this, note the attempted assignment of responsibility in the second sentence (for your information of it appears of where he/they? want the responsibility to reside!)] Have a good weekend.

Thank You very much @rconner. I will check the site you have recommended. However, for now, i have decided to use a 10"X4" reducing tee and then connect a 4"X3" bushing to it. I can then route the 3" line from there.

RE: UPVC/PVC PIPING

If the question was whether or not a stub-in type connection can be done, the answer is probably no, unless the MAWP is very low and a hole cut "mechanical tee" type arrangement can be used for the branch.

If the question was whether or not you can buy a 10x3 reducing tee, that's a question best asked of suppliers and manufacturers than of an internet forum of engineers. If a 10x4 with a 4x3 bushing is all there is on offer, it's of course just fine to use it.

RE: UPVC/PVC PIPING

our go-by supplier does not offer a single 10x3 red. tee fitting in any PVC-type, I think not even for any 'plastic'.
given that the biggest reducing tee in B16.9 is 10x4, I think youre up to using moltenmetal's solution.
