design guide for cantilevered retaining wall with no heel?

design guide for cantilevered retaining wall with no heel?

(OP)
Does anybody have a good design guide for a cantilevered retaining wall with no heel? I can't undermine an existing foundation. The soil is hard clay, non-expansive, and the height retained is about 5 feet.

Please remember: we're not all guys!

Sliding will be an issue

Generally, the toe, or heel, depending on the direction of the soil retained, will work out to be about the height of the wall, and, yes, you will probably need a key or a slab to resist sliding.

slta...take a look at concrete sheet pile wall design. In your case, you are trying to balance resisting soil pressure with the imposed loads without sliding consideration. This requires deeper embedment. You're probably not planning on using sheet pile, but the design concept is similar.

CIRIA C580 Embedded retaining walls is a very well-used resource here in UK design offices. I'd definitely recommend it as an indepth, practical guide with some good worked examples in it (disclaimer I dont work for CIRIA! : )

RE: design guide for cantilevered retaining wall with no heel?

Can you put in a slab-on-grade at the front of the wall to restrain sliding?

I literally just did a design with a very small heel with the same issue you have.
