Patten Geometry

Patten Geometry

Patten Geometry

(OP)
Patten Geometry has replaced instant geometry but how do I delete / hide the original feature when using Patten geometry because when using instant geometry there was an option to hide the original which does not seem to be there now when using Patten geometry?

Thank you

RE: Patten Geometry

Hi Dan,
You can always hide the original (albeit manually while using Pattern Geometry).I am not sure why this option (Hide Original) is not there in Pattern Geometry but it clearly offers more than what Instance Geometry provided(like selective hiding/deletion of instances and much more).

RE: Patten Geometry

Seriously, how many people really 'hid' the original object as part of an 'Instance Geometry' operation anyway? OK, so now you have to perform an extra step to manually Hide the original object. I'll bet most people were already using that workflow. It would be different if we didn't have an easy-to-use, explicit 'Hide' function (starting with NX 8.5, all you do is select an object and the default 'Shortcut Toolbar' will pop-up which includes a 'Hide' item).

Besides, there are some pluses for NOT having the option as part of the 'Pattern Geometry' dialog. For one thing, this does simplify the UI. And another, it removes the need to document, as part of the Pattern help file, what is in all honesty a minor option that many people never use. And since it's NOT remembered by dialog-memory, it's not like it was something that you could toggle ON and have it become part of the future behavior of the 'Instance Geometry' function, meaning that IF you did want to use it again, you'd have to expand the 'Settings' section of the dialog and select it each time you wished to use it, which is the basis for my original contention that I suspect that most people are not using it now, preferring to go with an explicit Hide operation as a secondary operation.
