axial for beam splice design
axial for beam splice design
(OP)
I have a design guide from salmon steel design guide book how to design beam splice.
But the example only used moment and shear to design the beam splice.
I have huge beam axial.
do I add this axial to the flange force?
or the shear on the web?

RE: axial for beam splice design
why should an axial load splice be any different from any other kind of splice ? you need to pick up so much load from one side of th esplice and drop it off on the other, no? loadpath from one to the other (be it fasteners or welds) needs to be man enough for the job.
something to think about, if compression load, does your splice affect the beam's theoretical behaviour in compression (lateral bending ?)
